If you have expression lines and wrinkles around your forehead and eyes, you may have already looked into injectable treatments like Botox®. This wrinkle-smoothing treatment addresses wrinkles and creases for a youthful, refreshed look. One of the biggest advantages of injectable treatments like Botox® is the overall lack of downtime, but there are some guidelines to follow.

What is Botox® (Botulinum Toxin)?

Botox® is the first and most popular member of a group of injectables called neurotoxins or neuromodulators. These treatments use a compound called botulinum toxin that works by stopping targeted muscles from contracting, allowing the skin in the area to relax and become smooth. Botox® is used to address wrinkles between the brows, around the corners of the eyes, and across the forehead for a smooth, rejuvenated appearance.

How Does Botox® Work?

The botulinum toxin in Botox® is injected into the targeted area, where it travels to the nerves that control your facial muscles. Without harming the nerves, it tells them to stop sending signals that tell muscles to contract. Without these signals, the muscles stop pulling and creasing the skin. As a result, your lines and wrinkles disappear, but all your other muscles move normally for a natural appearance.

How Long After Botox® Can You Work Out?

When you leave your Botox® appointment, you can return to most of your usual activities immediately. You may notice minor swelling, bruising, or redness in the injection area. Your Juvanew Medspa expert injector will provide you with instructions, including:

Avoid Rubbing Your Face

Botox® takes time to reach your facial nerves and become active. You can accidentally cause the product to move if you rub your face during the first four hours after treatment. You should also avoid using at-home treatments that involve rubbing or pressing on your face during this time.

Keep Pressure Off Your Face

Pressure on your face could shift your Botox®. Avoid bending over with your face downward for four hours after treatment, and do not take a nap or press your face against a surface during that time. If you have your forehead treated, avoid any hats or accessories that would press on the treated area.

Skip Your Exercise Routine

Because strenuous exercise could possibly cause Botox® to move, you should wait 24 hours after treatment before resuming your workouts. These instructions also apply to jobs that involve heavy lifting or other strenuous work. After 24 hours, your Botox® is fixed in place and will not move no matter what you do.

How Long Do Botox® Results Last?

You may start to notice your wrinkles relaxing after a few days, but full Botox® results take up to ten days to develop. Results typically last three to four months, although this varies by individual and people who have been getting Botox® for a while can see their results last slightly longer.
