Radiesse® HD
While many people know Radiesse® as a dermal filler to add volume to the face or hands, this unique material can also work to smooth and tighten skin all over the body thanks to its hyper diluted (HD) form.
What is HyperDilute Radiesse®?
Radiesse® was originally approved as a dermal filler. Unlike most other fillers made of hyaluronic acid, Radiesse® is made of calcium hydroxyapatite, one of the materials that makes up bone. It also promotes the development of collagen.
Because collagen makes up the structural support network of the skin, it adds fullness and natural lift. Radiesse® as a filler works to promote intense collagen development, helping to fill in lines, wrinkles, and areas of lost volume.
HyperDilute Radiesse® has been diluted from its original form. In this form, usually diluted with sterile saline, the material does not provide the immediate filler action that it does in full strength, but it does improve skin tightness and firmness all over the body by stimulating collagen.
How does HyperDilute Radiesse® Work?
Each provider has a preferred level of dilution for certain parts of the body. When Radiesse® is injected under the skin of the face or body, it provides an immediate boost of fullness, but the body will absorb these molecules, leaving the collagen they built.
After treatment, when the Radiesse® has been absorbed, the collagen will remain for months, continuing to provide lift and tightening of the skin even after the effect of the filler has faded.
HyperDilute Radiesse® can be used for its collagen-building, skin-tightening properties without the initial filler effect. Injected into areas like the face, neck, chest, arms, legs, abdomen, and buttocks, it causes the skin to build new collagen. This new collagen causes the skin to tighten and become firmer.
Am I a Good Candidate?
Since Radiesse® has been approved by the FDA as a dermal filler since 2006, it has a long history of safety. In its diluted form, it remains very safe. You should let your provider know if you have issues with bleeding or clotting.
Is There Any Downtime?
Bruising and swelling may occur and last for a few days. However, you should be able to resume normal activities whenever you feel ready. You will be instructed to massage the area several times a day to keep stimulating collagen production.
What Can I Expect from HyperDilute Radiesse®?
You can expect to see skin become firmer and tighter over several weeks. One to three treatment sessions are recommended, each one month apart. In addition, you can return every 12-18 months for a maintenance treatment.
You will not see an immediate filler effect like you would see with Radiesse®. Instead, you will see a gradual improvement in skin tightness and lift as the smaller amounts of calcium hydroxyapatite signal the body to produce a new, stronger collagen matrix.
