Adult Acne is Real

Treat it like an adult.

Myth: You’ll eventually outgrow acne.

Not necessarily. Acne is a real concern for many adults. Just because you had acne as a teen, doesn’t mean you’ll have acne as an adult; and just because you had clear skin as a teen, doesn’t mean you won’t develop acne later in life.

  • It can be caused by a variety of factors, including hormones, diet, stress, and more.
  • Luckily there are multiple treatment options for various grades of acne, no matter your age.
  • Schedule a consultation with a Juvanew Medspa skin specialist for a thorough skin evaluation and recommendation of products that will target your specific acne.

Why you should wash your face before you go to bed

Fall asleep with a clean slate

Myth: It’s not a big deal if I go to sleep before I take off my makeup.

It’s incredibly important to wash your face before you go to sleep at night – keeping makeup on overnight can clog your pores and prevent your skin from repairing itself. While you sleep, your skin renews itself and increases collagen production (more collagen = firmer skin and fewer wrinkles). If the body doesn’t go into this repair mode, damaged cells can accumulate, causing your skin to age faster. Make sure you choose a cleanser that is appropriate for your skin type. By PCA SKIN®

The truth about tanning beds

No tanning bed is safe

Myth: Tanning booths are safe as long as they don’t contain UVB rays.

Indoor tanning is a highly dangerous activity that increases skin cancer risks dramatically. Researchers at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School collected data from over 73,000 female nurses from 1989-2009. The research indicates that even just ONE indoor tanning visit a year increased a woman’s likelihood of developing basal cell carcinoma by 10%. Six or more visits increased that chance by 82%. Just four tanning sessions increased the chances of non-melanoma skin cancers by 15% and melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, by 11%.

The risk is even higher for younger tanners. According to an article published by Skin & Allergy News, statistics show that 7% of adolescent girls have used a tanning bed by the age of 14. From ages 14-15 that number doubles to 14%, then doubles once more from the ages of 15-17.

In addition to the increased cancer risks, indoor tanning creates oxidative damage and increases the visible signs of aging. Melanoma is projected to kill 8,790 Americans this year alone. Those are scary numbers. If you are really looking for a safe sun-kissed glow, we recommends a spray tan. By PCA SKIN®

Why you shouldn’t pop pimples

At-home popping can create a slew of problems, making professional care vital in acne treatment

We all hate breakouts when they occur, and it can be very tempting to squeeze them in an attempt to get rid of them quickly – but there are plenty reasons not to do exactly that. When you pop a pimple, you are actually making it harder for your skin to heal and can generate additional breakouts. On top of ripping open your skin, which can create discolorations as the lesion heals, the dirt and bacteria from your fingers can cause infection. Popping pimples can also lead to scabbing, or even scarring (much worse than a temporary pimple).

Skincare professionals can perform an extraction instead, which is much more hygienic. They use a tool specifically designed to unblock clogged pores, wear gloves and clean the area as they go.

Everyone’s breakouts are a little different and require different treatments – everything from daily cleansers with benzoyl peroxide for regular breakouts, to spot treatments for the occasional pimple.
