How Does BBL® HEROic™ Work?

Though often considered a laser treatment, BroadBand Light therapy uses intense pulsed light (IPL) instead of laser energy for skin rejuvenation. The BBL® HEROic™ device delivers broad-spectrum light to the skin, which is absorbed by pigmentation and superficial blood vessels. This breaks down the pigmented skin cells and closes the blood vessels, fading discoloration and redness.

At the same time, heat from the light’s energy prompts a healing response, and the skin begins producing more collagen. Since collagen keeps the skin smooth and firm, this can reduce fine lines, texture, and mild laxity.

BBL® HEROic™ has all the benefits of its predecessor, BBL® HERO™: a faster, more powerful treatment with enhanced cooling. Now, BBL® HEROic™ features AI technology for a more precise, optimized treatment.

Am I a Good Candidate for BroadBand Light Therapy With BBL® HEROic™?

BroadBand Light therapy is effective for many common skin conditions. Since the treatment targets melanin (pigmentation) and blood vessels, its primary uses are for hyperpigmentation, redness, and vascular issues. We may recommend BBL® HEROic™ for:

• Acne and acne scars
• Rosacea
• Spider veins, broken capillaries, and vascular lesions
• Sun spots or age spots
• Uneven skin tone and redness

BBL® HEROic™ treatments can also increase collagen production for an anti-aging effect. Patients may enjoy fewer lines and wrinkles and smoother, tighter skin. However, we may recommend an alternative treatment like RF microneedling or the HALO® laser if wrinkles and laxity are your primary concerns.

How Long Does a Typical BBL® HEROic™ Treatment Take?

BroadBand Light therapy became faster than ever with the HERO™ (High Energy Rapid Output) technology. BBL® HEROic™ makes the process even smoother with artificial intelligence, intuitive software, quickly changeable filters, and a fully automated pulse delivery system.

During your BBL® HEROic™ treatment, you’ll wear protective eyewear, and we may apply a topical anesthetic. The BBL® HEROic™ technology features innovative cooling to maintain your comfort. As the handheld device delivers rapid pulses of light, you may feel warmth and a sensation similar to a rubber band snap. Depending on the size of your treatment area, the process may take about 30 minutes.

What Results Will I See From BBL® HEROic™?

Patients typically see more even skin tone within two weeks of their first BBL® HEROic™ treatment. They will likely see minimized dark spots and redness for a brighter, clearer complexion. You may also see reduced fine lines and wrinkles, especially with continued treatment.

We generally recommend a series of sessions for the best results. Most patients achieve their desired outcome with three to six treatments. Is There Any Downtime After BBL® HEROic™ BroadBand Light Therapy?

BroadBand Light therapy is a gentle treatment with no downtime. Immediately after your appointment, your skin may be red and feel similar to a sunburn for a few hours. You can apply makeup and gentle moisturizers, but avoid harsh products like retinol or salicylic acid for one week. 

Patients typically return to their daily routine immediately after a BBL® treatment. You may notice pigmented skin lesions darkening and flaking off over the next few days. Your skin will be especially sensitive for two weeks after BroadBand Light therapy, so be sure to apply sunscreen and limit sun exposure.
