Microneedling Rockwall

What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a treatment for fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars that stimulates the production of the skin’s own collagen and elastin. It does this through the use of a hand-held device that is applied to your skin by a trained professional. This device contains a number of microneedles that will puncture your skin with controlled depth to create tiny, controlled skin injuries. Once this is done, your body will take over in order to heal your skin and will produce new collagen and elastin to heal and fill in those spots.

What Is The Treatment Like?

The average treatment takes about an hour. Before the microneedling begins, a numbing cream will be applied to the area being treated. The device is then moved over that area, creating tiny injuries to the skin. After the treatment, most patients see redness in the area for 2 to 4 days, and then the redness subsides leaving you with skin that glows and looks more refreshed and smooth. Because new collagen and elastin are being produced, you will notice improvements for the next few weeks and up to 6 months. Moderate acne scarring will usually require 3 to 4 treatments to achieve the best results.

Microneedling Consultations Available

Microneedling can be done alone or with a Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment. In a typical PRP treatment, your physician will draw blood from your own arm and spin it in a centrifuge machine to separate out the blood platelets from the plasma. The platelets in the blood contain proteins and other growth factors that will stimulate collagen production. Collagen helps to provide elasticity to your skin as well as helping to restore volume. This, in turn, gives your skin a more healthy, youthful look and helps to speed along the reduction of your acne scars. During a PRP treatment, the platelet-rich liquid will be topically applied to your face during and after microneedling.

Is Microneedling Painful?

A procedure that uses microneedles sounds rather painful, but the use of a topical numbing cream helps greatly with any discomfort that a patient may feel. In fact, many patients have described the sensation as feeling like light sandpaper with vibrations moving across the skin. Because the needles are so small and because the device is moving across the skin in a controlled manner (not just boring into one place), the discomfort is much less than one would expect when first hearing the name of this treatment.
