What is Microneedling?
Using needles that only penetrate a few millimeters into the skin, microneedling stimulates collagen development. This vital protein forms the skin’s structural support, keeping it firm and lifted. When collagen fades with age, skin can become looser and start to sag. Microneedling can rejuvenate the skin by renewing your youthful levels of collagen.
How Does Microneedling Work?
The MicroPen microneedling tool uses a handheld device with twelve tiny needles. These enter the skin to create micro-channels. Microneedling works because these minor areas of damage encourage the skin around it to respond. The skin around the micro-channels starts a healing process that leads to more collagen development.
How Often Should You Get Microneedling?
You will usually have a series of microneedling treatments to achieve your goals, followed by maintenance treatments. Most people need three or four treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart. However, deeper lines and wrinkles or acne scarring may require six treatments.
After your initial sessions, your Juvanew Medspa expert will advise you on how often you should have maintenance treatments. One to two sessions a year will keep your skin tight and youthful-looking for most people. You can prolong your results by avoiding sun exposure and using a dermatologist-approved sunscreen.
What is Microneedling With PRP?
At Juvanew Medspa, we offer microneedling with the addition of platelet-rich plasma (PRP). We extract PRP from a small sample of your blood by spinning it in a centrifuge to separate the layers. After microneedling, the PRP is applied to the face and absorbed into the micro-channels.
PRP contains platelets, which play a key role in wound healing. It also contains many healing and growth factors that stimulate skin repair and rejuvenation. Adding PRP to microneedling makes the healing process faster and improves collagen production for better results.
Is There Any Downtime with Microneedling?
Your skin may feel sore or sensitive for a few days following treatment. You may also look like you have a mild sunburn. Your skin will recover completely in a few days. Until it heals, we recommend using a gentle cleanser and treating your skin with hyaluronic acid. You should avoid any harsh or irritating products and make sure to use dermatologist-approved sunscreen.
