Every person has been or will be affected by the aging process. Fine lines and wrinkles begin to appear, pores become enlarged, our skin looks dull, and we fight acne or acne scarring. It’s a real battle to try to stay looking young and refreshed. Even the environment fights against us with damaging rays from the sun and general pollution attacking our skin. Chemical peels can be just the remedy that is needed to combat these common skin problems associated with aging, but how often can you safely get a chemical peel?
Chemical Peels
A chemical peel is a skin-resurfacing procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove the top layers and allowing smoother, younger-looking skin to grow back in its place. In a chemical peel, a mild acid, such as alpha hydroxyl acid, causes a “controlled injury” to the surface skin cells so that they will peel off and new cells will replace the old cells. Because chemical peels clean your pores on a deeper level, the chances of a breakout are reduced greatly. Skin cells that were damaged by the sun, discolored, or part of a scar a gradually peeled away revealing a more beautiful, even complexion.
Chemical peels are performed by highly trained staff who will discuss your individual needs with you during a consultation, The process then takes about an hour. Full results will be seen in 2 to 3 weeks, but most patients leave already feeling refreshed and rejuvenated and noticing a healthy glow to their skin. Some patients may experience redness and slightly swollen skin, but this subsides in 1 to 2 weeks. During this two-week time frame, dead skin cells will continue flaking off leaving bright and beautiful new skin!
How Often Can I Get a Chemical Peel?
At Juvanew Medspa, we use PCA Chemical Peels. These are the gold standard of chemical peels and have been for nearly 20 years. They work to reduce fine lines, uneven skin tone, discoloration, acne, and acne scarring.
The PCA Chemical Peels vary in strength:
- Light Chemical Peel removes the outer layer of the skin (epidermis). The light peel can be repeated every 2 to 5 weeks.
- Medium Chemical Peel removes skin cells from the epidermis and from the upper portion of the dermis (middle layer of skin). This medium peel can be repeated every 3 to 9 months to maintain results.
- Deep Chemical Peels remove skin cells from the epidermis and from the mid to lower layers of your dermis. This is used for deeper wrinkles, scars, or even precancerous growths. This type of peel can only be performed once.
The staff at Juvanew Medspa can give you more details about each peel and help you decide which one is just right for you and can schedule your peels at the safest intervals for your skin.
